Outlander Season 7: Will the show start filming in January?

As we wait for Outlander Season 6 to premiere in early 2022, all you Sassenachs out there are probably hoping to hear any news about Outlander Season 7. Though there’s no confirmation, we may have a pretty good guess of when the new season is going to begin filming.

As previously reported, Outlander Season 7 is set to premiere in late 2022/early 2023. Four episodes that were originally supposed to be in season 6 have been tacked onto the seventh season due to production delays because of the pandemic. That means Season 7 will have 16 episodes.

Outlander is a big show and the whole production process takes a very long time. With the expected premiere date and the extra episodes this season, the series will need to start getting the cameras rolling soon.

So when will Outlander Season 7 filming begin? Thanks to the Outlander Training Program, we may have the answer.

Will Outlander Season 7 start filming in January?

Since Outlander began filming in 2014, the show, Screen Scotland, and ScreenSkills co-founded a training program. It gives those who are over 18 years old a chance to get hands-on experience from the professionals who work on the popular series. This year’s applications are now open and there are opportunities to help out in multiple departments including production, costume, and painting.

So what does all this tell us? Based on the training program application page, traineeships are set to start in January 2022. In previous years, the program usually brings in the trainees a couple of weeks before filming is set to begin. That means Outlander Season 7 filming could start sometime in January or the beginning of February.

It’s very exciting that could be happening in just a couple of months! I know as a fangirl myself, we always worry and wonder when filming is going to start so we have that peace of mind that work on the new season is underway. While this news hasn’t been confirmed by production, it’s certainly given this Outlander fan hope. Fingers crossed we’re right!
