Does Jamie ever go to the future in Outlander?
There are a lot of rules when it comes to time travel in Outlander. One of those involves the people who can time travel. Is Jamie one of them?
Not everyone is able to time travel. We know that Claire, Brianna, and Roger all have the gene. In both the show and books, we’ve also met a few other individuals who can time travel, including Geillis, Wendigo Donner, and Master Raymond. There are many others around the world.
What about Jamie Fraser? Something that a lot of new fans (and even some older fans) wonder is whether Jamie can time travel. Has he ever been to the future?
Jamie can’t time travel in the world of Outlander
Jamie Fraser doesn’t have the time-traveling gene. In the books, we find out that Brianna and Roger’s daughter, Mandy, can see people as certain elements, and Jamie is water. Those she sees as water don’t have the ability to time travel.
There is a point in the TV series where Jamie puts his hand on one of the stones. Claire wants him to come to the future with him, but he knows that he can’t time travel. He can’t hear the stones the way she can. He doesn’t feel drawn to them, either. We watch him put his hand on the stone and nothing happens.
Not only has Jamie never traveled to the future yet, he won’t travel to the future. No, the ghost doesn’t count. That’s something completely different.
Of course, many fans would love to see Jamie travel to the future. It would be much safer for everyone. It would also be fun to see Jamie witness the technology of the future. However, I don’t think he’d settle in the world of the 20th century. While he is progressive for his time, he is still a man of his time period.
