Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There is a little bit of foreshadowing in this chapter. The first is that we’re not done with the Montauk Five. We know what happened to Otter Tooth and one of the others. There are three others unaccounted for. Do we really think none of them will turn up again?

Of course they’ll turn up. Well, one of them will. We get to meet Wendigo Donner at some point in the story.

Then there’s the foreshadowing of Jemmy’s time-traveling capabilities. He can feel the heat from the opal and the gemstones, and he can hear the buzz. However, he has a much stronger sense of it all compared to Claire, Brianna, and Roger. I’m sure this is foreshadowing that Jemmy is Roger’s biological child. Jemmy has the ability to time travel from both of his parents.

There’s also the tongue-rolling part. Jemmy can’t roll his tongue. Sure, he could have just ended up with Brianna’s gene, but it’s interesting that neither Bree nor Roger can roll their tongue. Doesn’t this mean something hopeful for Roger?

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter was partly used for Outlander Season 5. Young Ian did get to find out that Claire, Brianna, and Roger are all time travelers. There’s no way you can’t smile at Ian’s initial thoughts that Claire is a fairy. It all starts to make sense for him.

I do love the way that Ian wants to be able to time travel. He wants to go back to fix a few things from his past, but we all know that isn’t possible. Not only can Ian not time travel but you can’t go to your own time stream. Roger got kicked out of his.

We did get the mention of Otter Tooth’s journal, but that was more to open the conversation about time traveling. There wasn’t really the need to go into more detail about Otter Tooth. While the discovery is interesting, it would take too long for the show and wasn’t needed for the overall storyline, so I’m glad it was skipped over.

The important part was kept: Jemmy’s reaction to the opal. While the opal didn’t explode (possibly a cost reason and to keep actors safe), Jemmy did find it very hot and it did crack. We didn’t get the big conversation about genes, but Roger and Brianna do think that it is a sign Jemmy has two parents who can time travel. It means Jemmy is Roger’s son. Keeping this was important. It gave them hope, and it gives us hope.
