Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

The chapter doesn’t foreshadow too much. Not that I saw, anyway. The focus is on plot development. After all, we’re less than 10 chapters to the end of The Fiery Cross now. Everything is going to be focused on the climactic ending.

What we do get is a sense of danger still when it comes to Bonnet. He’s in Wilmington, which is where the women are. Naturally, Roger and Jamie are concerned about that. While there isn’t a problem in this particular novel, Bonnet will be a big problem in A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Roger and Jamie are right to be worried about Bonnet’s location.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter wasn’t used in Outlander Season 5 in full. Jamie, Roger, and Young Ian did try to set a trap for Bonnet, and that trap did fail. Lillywhite wasn’t the one who turned up, though. In the series, Lillywhite wasn’t working with Bonnet. That makes sense in terms of cost. It is cheaper to get someone for just a scene and not have to hope that a guest star is going to be available throughout the entire season. It’s also cheaper this way, which means the money can be spent elsewhere.

The Russians were left out. In fact, Wylie turned up very briefly, but he didn’t have such a huge role as he did in the book. Keeping out this storyline made sense for the sake of condensing things. It wasn’t exactly important in the grand scheme of things.

Bonnet’s storyline was combined. I’ve mentioned this in the previous adaptation sections, and I’ve also mentioned why I liked that the show did it that way. From a TV series view, it really does make sense, and this is why it’s important to keep book and show separate. While a book storyline may be easy to spread out, a TV show can’t get away with doing that for various reasons.

Certain book chapters may also not translate well for the TV, or they may just be too expensive to do. The professionals know more than those of us watching it.
