Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There is a little bit of foreshadowing in this chapter, and it’s when Brianna comments that Jemmy doesn’t want her and Roger to get up to something. The comment is likely linked to Jemmy wanting breakfast and wanting his mom. However, there’s something else that I could take from this.

Sex leads to babies. Brianna may have been joking around about Jemmy not wanting a sibling. Of course, we know that there is a sibling to come. Hey, maybe that’s what the time after breakfast leads to…

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter wasn’t used in Outlander Season 5. We didn’t see much of Roger and Brianna together, although there was a time when Jamie walked in on Brianna and Roger together in the cabin.

I don’t think there is a need for chapters like this in the series. And no, I’m not a prude. It’s not the topic but more of the way it fits within the story. There isn’t drama, and there isn’t really anything this chapter leads to. The point of it is for life on the Ridge.

That’s been the point of most of Part 7 in The Fiery Cross. This is the book I find the dullest, and part of it is because of all these slower moments. They don’t work for the TV show, so I’m glad they were skipped over for that reason.

That being said, I like seeing more of Roger and Brianna’s connection growing. There are ways to show that without things being a little too slow—and internalized as most of the chapters in The Fiery Cross are.
