It was the bad news we feared we’d get. One of the Outlander actors will no longer be at Wizard World Chicago 2021. Graham McTavish has had to cancel.

Every now and then, a guest has to cancel their appearance at a convention. We’re used to it with some of the big stars as they have other things like production schedules that eventually clash with the convention dates.

However, McTavish hasn’t canceled due to a production. He shared the disappointing news that he won’t be able to make it to Chicago because he is stuck in Scotland. Yes, he is currently filming a production, but that is not technically the reason for canceling.

Why won’t Graham McTavish be at Wizard World Chicago 2021?

We can blame COVID for this one. McTavish shared the disappointing news via a video on social media. He’s in self-isolation.

It turns out that his driver on his new production tested positive for the coronavirus. Because of McTavish’s close proximity, he’s classed as a “close contact,” and Scotland is still strict on the quarantining rules, even for those who are fully vaccinated from the disease. He has to be in self-isolation for 14 days, and it means that he can’t fly out to Wizard World Chicago.

This certainly is disappointing news, but we’re hoping that Graham remains healthy through all this. Hopefully, it’s just one of those self-isolation annoyances and he hasn’t caught the virus from his driver.

Those with tickets for Graham McTavish-specific items at Wizard World Chicago 2021 will be automatically refunded. This includes photo ops and autographs. Wizard World didn’t make it clear what will happen with the three-man Outlander photoshoot, but it’s possible that this will just adapt to a two-man photoshoot instead.

There are more Sam Heughan tickets now available. He’s already in the U.S. so there shouldn’t be a need for him to cancel last minute.
