Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There isn’t that much in the way of foreshadowing. This is just a small chapter while getting us ready for the next set of big events to come in The Fiery Cross. It’s more about giving us a little more life on the Ridge because it’s never all that quiet!

If there is an element of foreshadowing, it’s in Brianna’s thoughts. Maybe she’s right to worry about Roger. But maybe we just get to see him go on a spiritual journey that will help him settle his mind after everything that happened at Alamance.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter wasn’t used for the series, but that doesn’t mean some of the conversations weren’t. There wasn’t the need for the chapter as a whole. There just wasn’t the time for a bear hunt. The boar hunt was far more important for the show, and that gave us a little more time with Josiah Beardsley as a hunter.

Brianna’s fears about Roger could come up in another way. We got that moment with Claire as they discuss the haunted look in Roger’s eyes. Bree thinks of how a friend’s boyfriend looked after the Vietnam War, while Claire thinks about the soldiers in World War II suffering from shellshock.

The small conversations were important and I’m glad they were kept in. The lack of bear hunt didn’t bother me all that much with everything else that had to fit into Outlander Season 5.
