Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts light. The Frasers and MacKenzies are heading back to Fraser’s Ridge, and the Findlay boys are with them. The boys have grown attached to Roger and want to help him. However, they can get a little much.

During the chapter, Jamie talks about a new Gaelic word Claire has heard, a chuisle. While I love that Claire is still interested in these Gaelic words, I love Jamie even more for his patient explanations. He doesn’t belittle Claire for not knowing something. He doesn’t hold his knowledge over her. Instead, he just explains it all as one should!

Maybe I’m projecting my own situation a bit into that conversation. For those who don’t know, I thought I’d found my Jamie. Well, it turned out he was my Frank, and now I love the book Jamie even more as I realize all the elements of Jamie’s character that wasn’t there in my Frank. There are real Jamies out there, but it’s about patience to find them.

The conversation moves onto Buck, who still can’t be found. Jamie is out for blood, it seems.

Roger suddenly screams out during the chapter. It turns out Jemmy was reaching for a coffee pot. Roger’s fatherly instincts kicked in. It didn’t matter if he feared the loss of his voice. He was going to scream out to protect his son since nobody else had seen what was happening.

Of course, everyone gathered around to get Roger to speak again. The Findlay boys want him to say all sorts of tongue twisters, but Brianna is the one that steps through with an easy word for him to say. She wants him to say her name.

Roger is panicking up to this point. There’s a lot going on around him, and surely the shout would have hurt. Claire can see that he’s uncomfortable, but Brianna helps to settle him. He smiles and says her name. It’s hoarse and broken up, but it’s her name. And it’s a start.
