Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

The chapter doesn’t foreshadow all that much. The only thing I can really see is that the Browns are still a problem. Jamie and Claire know that the Browns had something to do with Morton almost being killed, and it’s clear that this family will remain a problem.

We get that foreshadowing that Lionel Brown will abduct Claire. Okay, so this chapter isn’t all that clear that it will lead to that, but watch out for the Brown family. They will do anything for family.

There’s also a hint of foreshadowing of an apology to Roger. Tryon apologizes to Jamie and Claire, but it’s not enough. He’ll need to do something more.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

Morton’s story was included in the storyline within the battle. The Browns are there in the tent for it, leading to Claire’s syringe being destroyed. It’s clear the Browns had something to do with Morton, but that Morton will live.

Jamie and Tryon do have it out, but not over Roger’s hanging. Instead, it’s linked to Murtagh’s death and Jamie throwing his red coat to the ground. Things happened in a slightly different order due to the way the TV show had to play out the story. The episode ended with Claire, Jamie, and Brianna finding Roger and they couldn’t head back to the battlefield after that.

Instead, Claire’s fears about Roger are mentioned to Brianna. She’s also worried. He has a haunted look in his eyes, and Claire and Bree both liken it to two different wars in their own time periods. We get this connection to their present days, which would naturally be important to them.

Then there’s the apology. Tryon doesn’t apologize for Roger in person but via a letter. It also comes with the land as a way of making up for what happened. I didn’t mind keeping it all to the letter. It allowed the focus in the TV show to be where it was needed at the time. Remember, TV show storylines don’t work in the same way as book storylines.
