Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 64 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
It’s very clear that Roger is going to be in trouble after this. Everything has built up to this point. Roger has landed himself into some serious trouble with Buck, and it’s going to be after the Battle of Alamance that we find out what’s happened.
There is sort of foreshadowing in the sense of the trouble, but this chapter is all about plot development. It’s time to find out why Roger ends up in trouble.
Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter
The chapter was partly used. We didn’t get the full thing due to lack of time, but we got the important moments. There was the conversation with Morag and then the kiss that led to the trouble.
Buck found out that Roger was a man of the militia and knocks Roger out on the spot. We didn’t need the chase, with Roger attempting to get away. The shock moment of him just being knocked out was enough to then move the story along.
With so much going on in Outlander Season 5, Episode 7, this part of the story didn’t need the full story. It needed to stick to the important parts to keep the focus on everything else going on at Alamance. After all, we also had to deal with the loss of Murtagh, bringing part of the storyline from previous books with Murtagh’s last line to Jamie.
From a TV show point of view, the decisions made a lot of sense to me.
