There will soon be another series to watch to help get through some of Droughtlander. Kin is coming to AMC+ in September, but why is it worth watching?
At first glance, Kin isn’t going to be a series for Outlander fans. It’s got nothing to do with Scotland or history. It certainly won’t have the love story of Claire and Jamie to draw fans in. However, there is one major reason you’ll want to watch it.
Maria Doyle Kennedy is in the series. She’ll play a wife of an Irish crime boss. One from the older generation, we’ll get a chance to see how the women would have influence without stepping out of line when it came to their men.
She’s joined by Clare Dunne, who will play a woman from a younger generation of Irish crime families. This woman is more willing to fight for power, standing out against the men when she knows she’s right.
What is Kin about?
The new series will premiere on AMC+ starting Thursday, Sept. 9. Episodes will air weekly on the streaming platform.
It focuses on a Dublin family that finds itself in the middle of a gangland war. This is unlike any war experienced before. This one is against an international cartel, a David vs. Goliath battle.
The Kinsella family is outnumbered, outgunned, and out-financed. The stronghold is gone, and the businesses are failing. However, they still have each other. One thing the Irish crime families have always been is loyal to their own, and that unbreakable bond is sure to help them get through the trouble they face.
If you love Outlander for the way family treats each other (well, the way Jamie and Claire treat family), then you’ll certainly want to tune into Kin for that connection. Otherwise, it’s all about Maria Doyle Kennedy.
Kin premieres on Thursday, Sept. 9 on AMC+.
