Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

We still have to figure out what happened to Betty. That is something to come, and the sludge that Claire finds is the thing that killed her. It takes some time, but eventually, everyone will figure out what really happened. This is the foreshadowing that is actually plot development.

The foreshadowing is in Wylie and Bonnet being together. They’re meeting for some secret reason. Why else choose a shed? There’s also something about Stanhope. He had been playing cards with Wylie and they lost against Jamie, but surely Stanhope should have gone to bed. There’s a story here.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter wasn’t used in the series since Betty’s murder wasn’t a storyline. Likewise, Wylie and Bonnet aren’t seen together, but Wylie does know who Bonnet is. In fact, Jamie tries to set a trap for Bonnet using Wylie to do so.

The bit that was used for the series was the autopsy. It was under very different circumstances. Claire wants to make the Ridge safer for everyone, and understanding how people died helps with that. She also uses the autopsy as a chance to bring Marsali into the surgery as her apprentice.

As much as I love the books, I do adore the series’s way of using the autopsy. I just love the way that Marsali was developed on the show, and I wish the show would do the same with Fergus. The books don’t offer the two characters quite as much development. I hope to see more of Fergus and Marsali in Outlander Season 6 and beyond.
