Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Jamie thinking back to the small wedding in Jocasta’s room. He’s happy that it all went off without a hitch, and he thinks about how Bree and Roger looked at each other during the ceremony. It’s not that long since the two had been married.

After the ceremony, Jamie thinks about how he wants to be with Claire sexually, especially when she’s had a little bit to drink.

The more I read through the books again, the more I realize that the men really think of nothing but sex with their women. I guess at first I thought it romantic, but it’s stopped feeling all that gushy to me. I am currently reading it with a clouded mind after learning my (now separated) husband had an affair. There was a lot of other stuff around the affair, and it’s all affecting the way I read Jamie and Roger at the moment.

Moving on, Jamie eventually finds Claire. They don’t end up doing anything because there isn’t the time or space. Phillip Wylie interrupts them talking, offering Jamie a game of whist.

Naturally, Jamie can’t turn this down. He has his pride to think about. It’s a shame Claire didn’t point out that pride is the deadliest of the seven sins in this moment. Jamie is a prideful man, and there was no way he would be able to turn down a game of cards.

While he is good, so are others at the table. And this is a high-stakes game, and Jamie needs something to play with. That leads to him asking for Claire’s gold ring.

She’s already angry that he didn’t turn Wylie down. She’s even angrier that he wants to gamble with her gold ring from Frank. On top of that, he doesn’t ask for the silver ring from him. Jamie points out that the gold ring is worth more (in cost), but Claire isn’t satisfied with that answer. Instead, she gives him both rings to gamble with.
