Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 48 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
There isn’t much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. It’s all very much in the moment, and it’s really just about adding something for Claire while she’s on her own. As mentioned, it doesn’t even come up again, and I do find that a shame, as Claire could have had some fun with it.
Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter
The chapter wasn’t used in Outlander Season 5. It wasn’t necessary on the series since it doesn’t lead to anything big for the main storylines. This is just one of those chapters that continues the night, and the show just didn’t have time to fit it in.
To be honest, I’m glad it wasn’t included. Part of the problem is not revisiting it later. It happens and that’s it. If I was Claire, I’d have questioned Jamie the next morning to make sure it was him! Had it been revisited or had it been more important to the overall story, it would have been more necessary to add it into the series.
The show has to make a lot of cuts. This is one of those chapters that just made sense to completely avoid.
