Outlander Season 6 is not coming in 2021

If there’s one downside to being obsessed with Outlander, it’s the wait for a new season. Right now we’re waiting for Outlander Season 6 to premiere.

I wouldn’t wish Droughtlander on anyone. It’s the most difficult part about being a fan of the time-travel show. Its big production, many elements to deal with like the weather, plus post-production all means that everyone’s very hard work takes time to get through. And we definitely don’t blame them. The actors and crew can’t be overworked and they want to be sure they’re putting out the best of the show we all love.

Though we’ve learned patience and understand why it takes so long, that doesn’t mean we can’t (kindly) complain about it. We can’t help it! How could you not miss that dashing Scot and his Sassenach?

But we know the amazing team—from cast to crew—is always working extra hard to bring our beloved Jamie and Claire back on our screens as quick as possible. With that being said, some may be wondering if we’ll be seeing Outlander Season 6 sometime this year.

Outlander Season 6 not coming in 2021

Sorry, Sassenachs. I hate to disappoint those of you who were hoping to see Outlander Season 6 in 2021. STARZ has already confirmed the time-travel romance will be back in early 2022.

The production company didn’t give an exact date for next year, but Sam Heughan may have given us the answer. There’s a really big chance the sixth season will premiere in February. Perhaps near Valentine’s Day?

Outlander usually airs on Sundays so that could mean a Feb. 13 date. I mean, there’s no other show that fits perfectly with the holiday of love, and it’s the perfect way to celebrate the return of the king of men and his fiery wife!

If you’re thinking early 2022 is a long time to wait, the wait could have been much longer. So I’m not complaining! Production on the season was delayed for months because of the pandemic. Because of this, Season 6 has been shortened to eight episodes instead of 12. Though there’s a lesser amount of episodes, that does mean we get the new season earlier than if it had been the original episode count.

If they went ahead with a fuller season, we probably wouldn’t have seen Outlander Season 6 until mid or late 2022. Dinna fash, Sassenachs! Those missing four episodes will be added to the already confirmed Outlander Season 7, bringing the seventh season to 16 episodes.

We still have a lot of content to look forward to! I for one am very happy with this decision. Outlander definitely isn’t a COVID-friendly show so I think this was the best route to take.

Droughtlander isn’t too drawn out for fans, everyone can film safely, the actors get a break before jumping into the extended Season 7, and production can figure out a plan to work with pandemic restrictions. Everyone is happy!
