Sam Heughan launches Royal Conservatoire of Scotland scholarship
Sam Heughan continues to give back to his community. The latest is in the form of a scholarship for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
After making a good name for himself with Outlander and various Hollywood movies, Sam Heughan continues to give back. We know that he is a generous person, but the latest generosity is to help up-and-coming artists just like him.
According to The Herald, Heughan has created a 10-year scholarship program for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the same university he attended and graduated from in 2003. He’s funding it all, offering a chance for aspiring artists to get the chance of the same career he’s had.
The scholarship is also a scriptwriting competition. In fact, there are three scholarships he’s invested in covering Drama, Dance, Production and Film at the university.
Details of Sam Heughan’s scholarships
The scholarships will be available in the next academic year, which starts in September. Two Scottish students will get the chance to take up places on the BA Acting programme. There will be a third scholarship for one non-Scottish student who is applying for the School of Drama, Dance, Production and Film.
The Royal Conservatoire is one of the most prestigious schools around the UK. In fact, it’s one of the world’s top three destinations for performing arts students.
As for the scriptwriting competition, this is the Sam Heughan Scriptwriting Award. It’s set to be released later in 2021 to encourage emerging artists to expand their skills across all disciplines of art within the conservatoire.
The arts industry has been hit hard with the pandemic. Many Outlander actors spoke about this due to their own connections to the theater and the industry as a whole. Now Heughan is looking at boosting the chances for others to get into the competitive world of production arts.
