Outlander Season 6 was originally going to consist of 12 episodes. That has changed due to the pandemic. It’s now going to be the shortest season of the series so far.
The disappointing news is that Outlander Season 6’s episode count has been reduced. Filming on the season has wrapped, and we’ll get it in early 2022, but it’s going to be four episodes shorter than initially planned.
Deadline reports that due to the pandemic, the season is being reduced from the planned 12 episodes to now just eight episodes. This makes it the shortest season of the series.
There are going to be a lot of concerns about how the whole of A Breath of Snow and Ashes could fit into the sixth season now. That’s despite some of the book being used for Season 5.
Well, the truth is, it won’t be. There’s no way to fit the whole book into the season, and the writers aren’t even planning that. The show has found a place to bring Season 6 to an end to then push the other stories into Outlander Season 7.
The remaining Outlander Season 6 episodes will be in Season 7
While it is bad news that Outlander Season 6 will only have eight episodes, those four other episodes aren’t just going to disappear. They’ll be part of Outlander Season 7.
And they’re not just taking over the first four episodes of Season 7. Instead, the next season will be longer. Initially 12 episodes, the season will now be 16 to match Season 1’s length. Could this mean the season will be released in two halves? Possibly!
The important thing to point out right now is that we’re still getting 24 episodes over the course of both Seasons 6 and 7. The difference is they won’t be an equal 12 episodes each. Let’s focus on the positives right now.
We still don’t have a premiere date for Season 6. We know it will arrive in “early 2022” but that’s it for now.
