Lauren Lyle is about to find herself a very busy woman. She’s landed the lead role in ITV Studios’ Karen Pirie. Here’s what we know so far.

Lyle is currently filming Outlander Season 6, but she’s soon going to have another show to film. ITV Studios announced that she’s the titular role in its new series, coming from the producers that brought Bodyguard and Line of Duty. Oh yes, this is going to be a great series!

Our own Marsali will switch babies and hemlock-filled syringes for handcuffs and a desire to learn the truth. She’ll play DS Karen Pirie, who is described as a “young and fearless Scottish investigator.” Like Marsali, she has a quick mouth and a desire for the truth. There’s no doubt that she’s likely protective of the people around her, too.

She’s joined by Emer Kenney, Chris Jenks, and Zach Wyatt as River Wilde, Jason “Mint” Murray, and DS Phil Parhatka respectively.

What is Karen Pirie starring Lauren Lyle about?

The series starring Lauren Lyle is based on The Distant Echo by Val McDermid. It’s the first book in the Karen Pirie series, with the first episode focused on a historic murder investigation that’s the subject of a provocative true-crime podcast. The case is reopened, with Karen taking the lead.

What’s the case? Rosie Duff was found brutally murdered in St. Andrews in 1996. Three drunken students who found the body were suspected, but charges were never brought against them due to a lack of forensic evidence.

That all changes 25 years later when someone is willing to speak out. Do the three men know more than they initially shared? Were they involved in Rosie’s death?

The series will have three episodes, with each episode running at 120 minutes. This is common for British TV shows. With more books in the series, there is a possibility of renewal, but ITV will want to see how the show performs first.
