The good news is A Discovery of Witches Season 3 is definitely happening. The bad news is it’s the final season. What else do we know so far?

There are three books in the series, and each book has been adapted into one season. It all started with A Discovery of Witches, which introduced us to Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont in the modern day. The second season took us to the past, and now it’s time to head back to the present day.

The third book is titled The Book of Life, and it follows Diana and Matthew as they continue the search to Ashmore 782 and its missing pages.

A Discovery of Witches Season 3 release date

There isn’t a premiere date just yet. The good news is A Discovery of Witches Season 3 has finished filming and is now in post-production. We won’t have to wait as long as we did for the second season.

On Twitter, the show has announced the season will premiere in 2022.

There are a few familiar faces guaranteed to return to the story, including Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode as Diana and Matthew. Owen Teale will return as Knox and Ed Bluemel and Adelle Leonce will return as Marcus and Phoebe.

Oh yes, Lindsay Duncan, Alex Kingston, Gregg Chillin, Trevor Eve, and Jacob Ifan are also set to return to the show. While Steven Cree’s character, Gallowglass, was introduced in the past during A Discovery of Witches Season 2, we’ll get to see him in the present day in Season 3. Vampire, remember!

There have been a few new cast members announced for the season, including Olivier Huband as Fernando Gonçalves, a stepfather of sorts to Gallowglass and sort of brother-in-law to Matthew.

Toby Regbo from Reign and The Last Kingdom is joining the series as Jack, the adopted son of Diana and Matthew.

There isn’t a trailer for the season just yet. This probably won’t come out until much closer to the release date, so we’re looking at toward the end of 2021 at the very earliest.

The season will follow The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness. The book sees Diana and Matthew back in the present day, where they run into a few people from the past thanks to their immortality.

They continue their search for Ashmore 782 and its missing pages, they also realize that the real threat to their future still hasn’t been revealed. They’ll use ancient knowledge and modern science together to learn about everything the witches discovered hundreds of years earlier.

Of course, there is still a lot of focus on love, passion, and family. It’s an epic ending to a beautiful trilogy.
