Is Outlander Season 6 coming in 2021?

All eyes are currently on when Outlander Season 6 will premiere. Is there any chance that we’ll get the premiere on STARZ in 2021?

Let me start by saying that I don’t have the exact premiere date just yet. Nor do I know just how much filming Outlander Season 6 has worked through or what STARZ’s plans are for scheduling the show.

This post is about looking at the chances of a premiere in 2021. And I’ll be honest by saying that I’m not hopeful about it.

Since the announcement that filming wouldn’t start until January 2021, I’ve erred on the side of caution and made 2022 the date in my head. Hopefully, it is the start of 2022, but I doubt that it will be late 2021—despite knowing that so many of us want the Outlander Season 6 premiere to be this year.

Why won’t Outlander Season 6 premiere in 2021?

Again, I’m not saying it definitely won’t. I just don’t see it happening.

Filming for the sixth season started at the beginning of January 2021. It usually takes nine months or so to film the season and then the show needs to go through post-production. While STARZ releases episodes weekly, it’s better for the network to make sure all episodes have finished post-production before the premiere happens.

With all that in mind, we’re looking at 12 months at the very least for filming and post-production work to be completed. That brings us to the January 2022 date.

I do wonder if STARZ will hold the show until Valentine’s Day weekend in 2022. This would time with the premiere of Season 5 and with Men in Kilts. It’s also a special Valentine’s Day treat.

I’m keeping a close eye on all things Outlander Season 6 right now. As soon as there’s a hint of a premiere date, I’ll be sure to share.
