Witchcraft and superstition on Men in Kilts Season 1, Episode 4
This episode is taking us into some of the darker folklore of the country. Scotland is full of it. People were highly superstitious back in the day.
People did genuinely believe in witchcraft—and not the Wicca religion of today. They believed that people would make pacts with the Devil to destroy people’s lives and make them sick. Because of the lack of knowledge about science and medicine, they believed in folklore and superstitions about curing people.
We saw some of it on Outlander. Claire experienced a witch trial, but before that she realized just how superstitious people were. The Changeling baby was a huge eye-opener for her. And while Jamie didn’t believe in Changelings, he could understand why people would.
It’s time to delve into the many superstitions and the history of witchcraft in Scotland. There will still be some humor, but there is going to be a bit of darkness to this episode due to the subject matter.
