Today is Sophie Skelton’s birthday, giving us the perfect excuse to look back at her time on Outlander Season 5. Here are her standout moments.

Just to note, this is about Sophie Skelton’s performance on the season. They may not be Brianna’s strongest moments, but they show off Skelton’s acting abilities and hint at some great things to come.

There were some excellent moments throughout the season. In fact, there have been some excellent moments throughout the show. And we’ve had a chance to see Skelton grow considerably in her skills from her first appearance back in Outlander Season 2’s finale.

5 best Sophie Skelton moments on Outlander Season 5

Hearing about Bonnet being alive

The first moment for me is in the Outlander Season 5 premiere. Brianna is supposed to have the best day of her life, but then she finds out that Bonnet is still alive. Sophie Skelton is perfect in the moment as she goes from this smile to the despair and shock. It’s not something she ever expected to hear.

We get so many emotions from her as soon as she finds out. There’s that sense of dread as she finds out her rapist is still alive. Not only that, but he could come and get her, especially since she told him that he is Jemmy’s father.

‘You have my hand, Mama’

At the very end of the season, we get this moment that harkens back to Brianna’s attack. Lizzie said to her “You have my hand…and my ear” when she knew Brianna had been raped. It clearly meant something to Bree.

Sophie Skelton said the line quietly and softly. We heard the empathy in her voice. After all, Brianna would know of some of the feelings Claire felt after the attack.

The reaction to the sight of blood

I have to admit that I got a chuckle at how Brianna reacted to the sight of blood. Skelton told us everything Brianna was thinking in this scene.

Sure, Bree knows all about 20th-century medicine. She knows what her mom can do. However, she wants no part in helping her mom. She simply can’t stomach the sight of blood. No words were needed.

Whenever Bree is deep in thought

There are many times that we have to tell what Brianna is thinking based on her looks. Sophie Skelton manages to offer us that throughout Outlander Season 5.

One of the times that really stands out for me is when she’s thinking about how to make her career as an engineer work while in the past. She does eventually talk to Claire about it, but at first, all we have is her deep in thought, giving us that hint of the educated young woman who likes to think before she acts.

The look she gave Roger at Bonnet’s execution

Finally, it has to be the moment at Bonnet’s execution after Roger asks if it was for mercy or revenge. It’s a question Brianna never answers, simply because nobody gets to understand her reasonings for shooting Bonnet. And nobody gets to judge.

Skelton didn’t say anything as Bree in this moment. She simply looked at Roger and walked away. It was very clear that Roger wasn’t to ask that question again.
