Netflix’s hit period drama Bridgerton has been renewed for a second season at last
Outlander fans are always in need of something to watch these days. If you enjoy the romance elements of the show, you might want to check out Bridgerton on Netflix. While there is only one season to binge right now, a second is coming.
Bridgerton is a Regency-era romantic drama based on a series of eight novels by Julia Quinn. It offers lush costumes and scenery, a passionate love story, plenty of scandal, and smoking hot chemistry between its leads Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page.
Each book in Quinn’s series focuses on the love life of one of the Bridgerton siblings. There are eight of them, and they are named in alphabetical order: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. Book and Season 1 focused on Daphne.
The Season 2 renewal was reported on TVLine. They revealed that the second season will be adapted from the second book in Quinn’s series, The Viscount Who Loved Me, which focuses on Anthony Bridgerton.
They cheekily announced the Season 2 renewal with a letter from Bridgerton’s Lady Whistledown
The show features a Regency-era gossip column penned by the mysterious Lady Whistledown, whose identity was revealed in the last episode. She “reported” the second season renewal along with the news that production will resume in Spring 2021.
The renewal is not surprising. Bridgerton was an instant hit for Netflix. An estimated 63 million households have viewed the show since it came out on Christmas Day.
One question they haven’t answered though, is what will become of Season 1’s power couple Simon and Daphne with the shift of focus to Anthony. Will their racy escapades continue? They managed to make room for Anthony’s trysts in Season 1 so maybe they’ll find a place for the Duke and Duchess in Season 2 as well. We can only hope.
