Outlander Season 6: Could Scotland’s lockdown affect filming?
Could Scotland’s latest lockdowns affect Outlander Season 6 filming again?
Has Outlander Season 6 filming started as planned despite the latest lockdowns in Scotland? Will there be further delays because of it?
Right now, we don’t have much to work with. Filming was supposed to start on Jan. 4, 2021, but the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announced the country would go into a nationwide lockdown on Jan. 5.
The good news for film and TV is that filming is still allowed to happen during this lockdown. It’s not quite as strict as the first lockdown. However, that doesn’t mean Outlander Season 6 will start filming.
We already know this show is not COVID-friendly. It’s actually one of the least COVID-friendly shows out there, and not because of the Claire and Jamie scenes. The show tends to have a lot of extras and a lot of people on set, which makes filming with the current protocols much harder. The most important thing right now is keeping everyone safe, and if that means more filming delays, it’s better than not doing anything at all.
That doesn’t stop us being disappointed, of course.
Outlander doesn’t tell us when filming starts
Something to note is that nobody official from Outlander will tell us exactly when and where filming is set to start. This is to help minimize the number of visitors to the locations to protect the cast and crew, making sure filming can go on without distractions.
Someone usually comes online somewhere a little bit after to say that filming has started.
When can we expect Outlander Season 6?
With uncertainty, expected filming delays along the way (it will take longer to film episodes with the extra protocols even once filming is back up and running), and the general time it takes to film the series, it’s going to be a while before we get the sixth season of the series.
It will be worth the wait, but I’m not hedging any bets on getting Outlander Season 6 in 2021. I expect it early 2022 at the earliest.
We need to be patient with this one. It’s a long droughtlander, but we can get through it.
