Could STARZ make a decision about Outlander Season 7 this year?
While we wait for Season 6, it’s hard not to look ahead at the hopeful future of the show. Outlander Season 7 is certainly on our minds. Could we hear about a renewal sometime this year?
Usually, I’d say no. It’s unlikely that Outlander Season 6 will premiere in 2021, and STARZ would usually likely want to see how the ratings hold up for this season, especially with such a long break.
However, Outlander isn’t a usual show. And STARZ has a history of renewing based on first-look figures. We just have to look at how the renewal for both Seasons 5 and 6 came before Season 4 even premiered. There is a chance that STARZ will make a decision sometime this year.
It makes sense for Outlander Season 7 to renew now
This Droughtlander was always going to be one of the longer ones. The pandemic has made it much longer than it was initially going to be. The last thing STARZ and the production will want is for another excessively long Droughtlander.
To avoid that, picking up Outlander Season 7 before 2021 is over makes sense. It will allow the production to get to work on the scripts quickly. This then allows the sets to be created and to start filming as soon as possible. It helps to keep Droughtlander as short as possible.
There’s no need to wait for how the ratings for Season 6 are. After all, Season 5 proved to be the most-watched season. While the Nielsen ratings had people worried, more people are watching directly through the STARZ App, which isn’t surprising considering episodes are available from midnight instead of waiting until 8 p.m. on the channel.
STARZ will know just how many people are rewatching the episodes right now. It remains a popular show for marathons on the network. And STARZ is the one that picked up Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish’s Men in Kilts. So, there’s no need to wait.
It makes more sense for Outlander Season 7 to be confirmed sometime in 2021. Here’s hoping it happens sooner rather than later to offer us some good news while we wait for Season 6.
