Outlander Season 4, Episode 8: Lizzie’s mistake was understandable
Lizzie’s mistake all started on Outlander Season 4, Episode 8
There are a lot of Outlander fans who blame Lizzie for Roger being beaten up by Jamie on Outlander Season 4. However, as we look back at Outlander Season 4, Episode 8, it’s easy to see why Lizzie made a mistake.
You can blame Lizzie all you want, but in the end, Jamie is the one who decided to beat Roger up without even checking from Roger himself who he was. Blame all the women if you really want—society has a huge problem with putting the blame on women when men make a mistake. However, Jamie is the one who acted first and asked questions later.
He’s the one who made the huge mistake. You can make all the excuses in the world for him, it doesn’t change that fact. And it’s no wonder Roger didn’t like Jamie at all after this.
But this isn’t about beating Roger. It’s not about Jamie’s actions. This is about Lizzie on Outlander Season 4, Episode 8. It’s easy to understand where her mistake came from.
Lizzie only saw Roger on Outlander Season 4, Episode 8
During the episode, Brianna and Roger reunited. At first, it looked happy, but there was a moment where all Lizzie saw was an argument. She couldn’t hear the words that were spoken and just saw the actions through the window.
When Brianna later turned up and had clearly been raped, it’s no wonder Lizzie jumped to the conclusion that Roger had been the man to do it. If you were in Lizzie’s position with absolutely no other information, there’s a high chance you’d jump to that conclusion, too. She hadn’t even seen Stephen Bonnet, so why would she even consider he was the one to do it?
This isn’t about the book storyline, by the way. That’s completely different to Outlander Season 4, Episode 8, and Lizzie is a bit of a silly little girl in that. At 14, things were different. She’s not 14 in the show—at least, she doesn’t seem like it. She is still fairly naive, though.
Lizzie would always remember what she thought was an argument, and maybe even an attack. When she saw Roger again, she naturally assumed he was Bree’s rapist coming to claim her. That’s what some rapists did back then, and there would have been nothing anyone could have done about it.
Fear took over. She did what she thought she needed to do, and it all came from this one moment on Outlander Season 4, Episode 8.
There’s no way I can blame Lizzie for anything at all. And I’d never blame Brianna as the victim for not wanting to even talk about it. It’s no wonder Lizzie jumped to the conclusions she did.
