Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There isn’t too much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. I think the biggest is the fact that they’ve come across a priest. Jamie has promised to see Fergus and Marsali married, and now they have the chance to do it. It’s clear that the wedding can finally happen.

I think there’s also an element of foreshadowing in the mention of Fergus. Fogden says that the man with a hook for a hand appears to be the captain. With Raines dead and Jamie missing, Fergus has had to step up to this position. We see him as a man who will step up when needed, who will provide for others.

It’s important for later books. Fergus wants to find work for himself. He wants to be useful to his family, and it’s hard for him to accept that.

Adapting the Voyager chapter

So, the adaptation. Lawrence Stern was completely written out of Outlander Season 3. I guess that’s mostly because he wasn’t a necessary part of the story. He told Fogden’s story and had some connection to Jamie that wasn’t used on the show. Fogden could tell his own story, especially since he was the most important part of a later section. We needed Fogden for the wedding.

To cut down costs, it made sense for the show to write out Stern. There was no need to find an actor for this small role.

But what about the trek through the jungle? I know this annoyed some people, but I loved to see Claire’s adaptability. We’ve seen her adapt to 18th-century life, but we see her as a survivor in this part of the story on the show.

I am confused by why the storm was skipped over. I guess that was a lot to do with safety, the conditions on set, and the graphics/filming. Seeing her react to the animals and eventually find Fogden worked.

However, the show kept Claire at Fogden for a little longer. I guess part of this was because the storyline at the beach changed a little. Claire and Jamie were eventually reunited instead of nobody knowing where Jamie was. The drama, the questions about whether they would get to each other in time, had to be adapted in another way. And there’s no denying that reunion on the beach was epic.
