Just the Outlander chapter

Claire manages to make it to land at the start of the chapter. And the best thing is, the Porpoise hasn’t stopped to get her back. Now Claire needs to focus on finding water.

While trekking through the jungle, there’s a storm. She needs to find higher ground to wait it out, and once she does, she can continue her search for water and help. That’s when she comes across a man, Lawrence Stern.

Stern gets her to Father Fogden, who is able to offer her water, food, the ability to clean, and some clothes. We learn a little about Fogden’s life, including how he met a woman and married her. They left her home for this island, bringing Mamacita with them, but his wife died two years later.

It’s clear that Fogden is suffering from it. He drinks a lot and smokes a lot of weed, but Claire doesn’t know if it’s that or possibly dementia that is causing his mental health problems. However, she is concerned that he talks to Coco.

Stern is the one who tells her the story. He also asks if she knows a James Fraser, and it turns out that he is the one that talked about spiders and caves with Jamie, mentioned in an earlier chapter. Oh, how it’s a small (and convenient?) world in Voyager.

The world gets even smaller and more convenient. There’s a ship that has wrecked on one of the beaches. It’s the Artemis, and Claire is able to get to the sailors with the hope of reuniting with Jamie. She finds Fergus and Marsali, but there’s no Jamie in sight. They know Captain Raines is dead, but they haven’t seen Jamie.

And that’s where we leave things for now. We’ll pick up with the next chapter tomorrow.
