Jamie’s standout moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 12

Jamie and Claire make it to Jamaica during Outlander Season 3, Episode 12. They can finally start looking for Young Ian.

They are so close to finding him, but it takes buying a slave, heading to the new Governor’s ball, and seeing ghosts of the past to get the truth. Here are Jamie’s standout moments from “The Bakra.”

Willing to truth people he’s never met

It’s not easy for Jamie to trust. At this point, he knows there are people looking for him, wanting him arrested. So when he gets to the port, he’s naturally guarded, until he finds out the guy asking about the Artemis is one of Jared’s employees. Not only does he get to work, but he also figures out he can trust this man.

On top of that, Jamie trusts the slave to get information for him. This is a slave who could tell him anything at all or even that the other slaves haven’t talked, but Jamie puts his trust in the boy.

Helping the slave the only way he could

Speaking of the slave, we see that Jamie is against slavery. However, he had to help the slave the only way he could, and that was to buy him in Claire’s name. He doesn’t want to own a slave either, but this is the best way to make sure the boy gains his freedom.

We don’t get the full story of why Jamie doesn’t want to own slaves in this episode. Nor do I believe he fully goes into it during Outlander Season 4. It’s all linked to his knowledge of indentured servitude and slavery (for those who didn’t know).

Happy to see Lord John Grey

Ghosts of the past appear, and for Jamie, it’s all about Lord John Grey. Lord John is the new Governor of Jamaica, and Jamie is immediately happy to see the man.

This happiness isn’t because Jamie has someone else who can help in the search for Young Ian. The happiness is genuine. It’s because Jamie views this man as a friend, and it’s important for the rest of the Outlander story.

Handing Claire the portraits

At the end of Outlander Season 3, Episode 12, Captain Leonard catches up to Claire and Jamie. Just before Jamie is arrested, he pulls out the “portraits of the children.” It’s clear that not only does he have the photos of Brianna, but he’s also passing Claire the portrait of Willie.

He wants to make sure the children’s portraits are safe. In this second, he proves to Claire that he trusts her. Regardless of Willie not being her child, Jamie knows that she will keep the portrait safe for Jamie because of her love for him.

Not fighting against the arrest

When Jamie is arrested, he doesn’t fight it. There’s no point considering he’s outnumbered, but also it would just make matters worse afterward.

I do wonder if part of him knows there could be a way out of this. With Lord John Grey as Governor, Jamie has a glimmer of hope that he will be freed. And we know that’s exactly what happens on the Outlander Season 3 finale.
