Just the Outlander chapter

Things start with Claire and Marsali. The two talk about babies, Laoghaire, and contraception. Despite not liking Claire, Marsali knows that this is the woman who likely knows the most about preventing babies. She’s a “wisewoman,” after all.

Claire learns a little more about the life Laoghaire has had. While Marsali doesn’t remember her father much, she remembers what it was like between Jamie and Laoghaire. Whenever Jamie would touch Laoghaire, Laoghaire would flinch. Marsali believes that it must have been due to having children, but I’m sure Claire thinks it is to do with something else.

After all, Claire knows that having children doesn’t always change things. Sure, it can lead to some complications, but Claire and Jamie have had children—and Claire admits this to Marsali—and nothing has changed between them.

They don’t have much time to talk, though. There’s a commotion going on. The Porpoise turns up looking for a surgeon.

Claire listens to the symptoms and is sure it’s typhoid. She’s vaccinated against it, so she agrees to going onboard the ship to see the patients. She can offer some tips and advice to contain the problem.

However, once Claire is on board, the captain of the Porpoise sails away. Of course, Jamie isn’t happy about that, but there’s little he can do. Claire and Jamie will be reunited in Jamaica. Well, unless something else happens!

There are hints of things happening. Claire overhears that Mr. Tompkins knows something about Jamie, and Claire isn’t sure whether that’s a good or bad thing. Keep in mind that the ship sailed from Edinburgh, which should hint a little of what’s going on.

There’s also the new governor of Jamaica traveling with them. We don’t get a name, but get ready for a familiar face to show up.

One thing we do get in Voyager Chapter 46 is the introduction to Elias Pound. This is the man (well, more like a boy) Claire will spend a lot of time with. She wants to get to know him on a friendlier level, but will only call him Pound when on deck and around the captain. She will call him Elias at all other times.
