Will Tobias Menzies return to The Crown Season 5?
Will Tobias Menzies be Prince Philip on The Crown Season 5?
This weekend, Outlander fans had something to binge-watch. The Crown dropped its fourth season on Netflix, but now all eyes are on The Crown Season 5.
This series was already popular among those who love period pieces and British history. It became all the more popular during Droughtlander with Tobias Menzies taking on the role of Prince Philip in the third season. He remained in the role during the fourth season, and there’s no way we couldn’t help but laugh with him mentioning the “Sandringham Estate.”
But what about The Crown Season 5? Will we get Menzies back in the role?
Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip on The Crown Season 5
Sadly, the answer is no. Tobias Menzies is not returning as Prince Philip on The Crown Season 5. That is unless there are some flashbacks to the time between the 1960s and the 1980s.
Like what happened between Seasons 2 and 3, the cast is changing once more. Game of Thrones actor Jonathan Pryce is taking on the role of the Duke of Edinburgh.
This decision was made to change actors as the characters aged instead of opting for makeup and graphics. This is the last changeover, with Pryce taking the role for The Crown Season 5 and Season 6. The show will end with six seasons.
Opting for the change has been met with mixed opinions. However, there’s no denying that Helena Bonham Carter was an awesome Princess Margaret and filled the shoes Vanessa Kirby left. The jury is still out on Olivia Colman depending on who you speak to.
The fifth season will pick up in the 1990s. Without giving away spoilers (although, I don’t believe you can spoil something that is written in history), the fourth season focused on Charles and Diana’s rocky marriage and the season ended before their divorce. The fifth season is likely to showcase the divorce and what that did to the Royal Family.
The Crown Season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
