Just the Outlander chapter

We pick up with Claire still in the room at Lallybroch. Jenny goes off to find Claire a dress to wear, shocked at Jamie’s actions. Jenny believes that Jamie was forcing himself on Claire, not that it was a passionate moment that could have led to a full reconciliation.

When Jenny goes off, Janet admits that she was the one to send for Laoghaire. Why would she think that would be a good idea? We can blame Jenny for that. Jenny instructed her daughter to do it, leading to the big confrontation.

Claire realizes that she’s not wanted, so decides it is time to head back through the stones. She should return to her own time. Claire doesn’t quite say all that, but she does tell Jenny she will leave. Jenny believes it’s a good idea, and just from that interaction, it’s clear that Jenny and Claire will never get that bond back that they once shared.

There still needs to be more said between them. Jenny is holding so much in, while Claire naively wanted to go back to how it was before Culloden. However, Jenny doesn’t just throw Claire out, packing her with provisions to get back to wherever Claire is going. And Claire is going back to the stones.

While on the way there, Claire thinks about Jamie. It’s not enough for her to return to him. It’s only when Young Ian finds her two days later in a field that she agrees to return. That’s because Laoghaire (who he says wails and doesn’t fight) has shot Jamie, and it sounds like Jamie is dying.

Claire races back to Lallybroch with Young Ian. It will take a day to get back to Lallybroch and she could be too late by then. She just has to hope that she isn’t.
