We’re getting ahead of ourselves looking at the hopes for Outlander Season 7

Admittedly, we’re getting ahead of ourselves right now looking at the future of Outlander. However, there are a lot of questions about the future of the series. Will Season 7 happen?

Right now, we’re in one hell of a Droughtlander. It was already going to be on the longer side with all the action that needs to fit in, but the coronavirus pandemic has lengthened it considerably. Filming still hasn’t started, and it’s looking like 2022 is the soonest we’ll get the season.

So, understandably, there are concerns about Outlander Season 7 and whether it will happen. Is STARZ willing to wait so long for the season when other networks are “unrenewing” and canceling shows because of the wait?

In a normal world, Outlander Season 7 makes sense

If this was a normal year, I wouldn’t worry about the show. It’s one of the top-rated shows on STARZ, so it wouldn’t make sense to cancel it. And it’s not like there isn’t the source material to continue the story even with some of the changes that have happened over the years.

I even said last year that the seventh season would likely happen.

Then Caitriona Balfe mentioned how she and Sam Heughan were contracted for seven seasons. Yep, you can listen to the video below where she talks seasons and not years.

What’s going to happen now?

Networks can only hold on for so long. Due to time, cost, and scheduling, Netflix has either canceled or “unrenewed” shows because of the delay the pandemic has caused. ABC has “unrenewed” Stumptown for the same reason. It does make us concerned about our show.

However, we have to remember that this isn’t the first time a STARZ show has taken time. Look at how long it took to get American Gods Season 2, and that was picked up for a third season during its second season run. It’s also been willing to wait years for its White Queen follow-up shows, The White Princess and The Spanish Princess.

STARZ knows what works for its viewers. It knows that Outlander is one of its biggest shows.

Talks will still be happening right now. Something STARZ will want to know is how long it will take to get Season 7 once Season 6 is in the can. The current delay could be beneficial to get the writing for Season 7 done so the actors can jump straight into filming once the filming for Season 6 is done, whenever that may be.

These are unusual times, but STARZ is a supporter of this show. Don’t rule out Season 7 just yet, but it will be some time before we find out about it.

What we might see if that it’s renewed for a seventh and final season to wrap up the storylines. Or we might see it renewed for two more seasons together but that this will be the last. I’d love for it to get 10 seasons to match the 10 books, but this is one of the most costly shows, and that will be something STARZ takes into consideration. This is just a gut feeling, though.

We’ll keep you updated on the future of Outlander Season 7.
