Claire’s standout moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 7

Claire didn’t realize how difficult returning to the past would be. We get a glimpse of that during Outlander Season 3, Episode 7.

The episode picks up off the back of the previous episode. Claire is attacked by a man in Jamie’s room at the brothel. We immediately get into her best moments from “Creme de Menthe.”

Needing to save the exciseman’s life

Claire has no choice but to protect herself from the man. However, when she realizes he didn’t die when he fell, she feels the need to save him. She’s taken an oath as a doctor. Even though that was in the 20th century, it’s part of who she is.

I know the attempts to save the man aren’t a favorite part for many Outlander fans, but it’s important for me to see Claire reacclimatize to the 18th century. She wouldn’t immediately start thinking as an 18th-century woman, so of course, she was going to think like a doctor. This moment felt genuine.

Struggling to reconcile with failure

It was all in vain. Claire couldn’t save the man due to the tools of the time. However, she isn’t someone who will blame her tools. She blames herself.

It doesn’t matter that Yi Tien Chao says that she fought hard to save him. It doesn’t matter that he praised her. Deep down, she feels like she’s failed. It’s just the first part of her struggling to fit back in.

Wanting to move out of the brothel

After everything, Claire tries to reconcile with Jamie. She wants them to build a life together. Jamie is happy in the brothel, but Claire doesn’t want to stay there. As Jamie has already pointed out, it’s not safe for her to live in a brothel, even if she isn’t a prostitute.

Claire has just come back from seeing Margaret Campbell. She wants to keep helping people, and she wants to work from the back of Jamie’s printshop. She’s giving him these options to build a life together, and he’s not taking the bait.

Seeing Ian Murray again

The second half of Outlander Season 3 includes a few reunions. The first one is when Ian Murray shows up looking for Young Ian. It’s a chance for Ian and Claire to reunite.

Naturally, there are tears. However, there’s also a little tension. Ian is clearly upset that Claire never reached out to him and Jenny over the 20 years, let alone Jamie. He’s confused and struggling to deal with the news, but he’s happy at the same time.

Claire, meanwhile, has to lie without lying. She needs to explain it in a way he’ll understand and believe, although it would be so much easier if she’d trusted him and Jenny with the truth.

The argument with Jamie

Finally, I have to touch on the argument between Claire and Jamie. Really, an argument between the two shouldn’t be a best moment, but this reminds us that the two have been apart for 20 years. They have lived different lives, and it’s not going to be that simple for the two to just reconnect.

Claire is angry that Jamie has lied to Ian. Jamie doesn’t understand what it’s like to raise a child. Of course, she doesn’t say it to be mean, but because she knows what it’s like not to know where her daughter is. She’s been through exactly what Jenny and Ian go through whenever Young Ian runs away.
