Make Cursed your next binge-watch during Droughtlander

We’re starting off a new week with a new Droughtlander suggestion. Many of you have likely already heard about Cursed on Netflix, but you may not have watched it yet.

Droughtlander is the perfect time to try out new shows. Cursed only has one season so far, and we’re still waiting on Netflix’s decision on the future of the show, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. One season doesn’t take long to binge-watch, and you don’t feel like you need to invest weeks or months (or even years) to get through a series.

Of course, the flip side to that is that you run out of shows quickly. We do offer quite a few one-season or two-season shows as suggestions though, such as Ratched and (currently) A Discovery of Witches.

But what about Cursed? Why is this for Outlander fans?

What is Cursed about?

Cursed on Netflix is a King Arthur retelling. It focuses on the Lady of the Lake, known as Nimue (pronounced Nim-way) in the series. When her village is attacked because of their use of magic, she has to take a special sword and get it to Merlin.

Along the way, she meets a young man named Arthur. She also finds herself coming across Morgana, Gawain, and many more you’ll recognize from the Arthur legends.

It’s not just a tale of a sword or of boys becoming kings. This is a tale of survival, of fighting for what’s right, and of trying to figure out which side you’re supposed to even be on. I’m sure Outlander fans can connect to that.

Why Outlander fans should watch the series

Why is it great for Droughtlander? It comes down to some similarities in the storytelling.

While Cursed is a fantastical world based on legends, it’s also set in the past. There’s no modern-day technology, even within the magic. The fights are about power and magic, about people scared of what they don’t know.

There are characters you won’t know whether you can trust or not, and that includes some of the main “good” characters. They all have their own agenda, and that often goes up against Nimue’s journey.

Along the way, Nimue has to learn who she can trust. She needs to figure out how to control her magic. And she certainly needs to figure out who she is deep down. It’s not an easy journey, and that makes it all the more thrilling for us.
