Everything we know about A Discovery of Witches Season 2 premiere and more

Outlander fans everywhere are looking for ways to get through Droughtlander. The All Souls Trilogy is certainly a great book series, and it’s led to the series A Discovery of WitchesA Discovery of Witches Season 2 is coming very soon, and we’re taking a look at everything we know.

At first glance, the show may not look like something for Sassenachs. After all, it’s a series about witches, vampires, and daemons. What link does it have to Outlander?

There are a few reasons to watch. There’s a love story that plays out, the second book/season is partially set in the past, and there are some excellent characters created. You’ll see a few familiar faces on the series, especially in Season 2 when Steven Cree shows up.

So, what do we know about A Discovery of Witches Season 2 so far? Let’s take a look.

A Discovery of Witches Season 2 premiere date

A Discovery of Witches will premiere its second season on Sky Atlantic in the UK on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. There isn’t much longer to wait.

What does that mean for those in the U.S.? Will we have to wait months for the full season to air like we had to with the first season? Not at all. The season will air the day after the UK release on both Sundance Now and Shudder. Make sure you’re ready for Saturday, Jan. 9.

Episodes air weekly, and there are 10 episodes to the season.

It’s certainly going to be something to help with Droughtlander. By this point, hopefully, filming will start. However, we’re not holding our breath as we have no idea what things will be like in January for filming. All we want is for the cast and crew to be safe and healthy.

A Discovery of Witches Season 2 cast

Who is involved? The majority of the cast from the first season will definitely return. That includes:

  • Teresa Palmer as Diana Bishop
  • Matthew Goode as Matthew Clairmont
  • Alex Kingston as Sarah Bishop
  • Valarie Pettiford as Emily Mather
  • Daniel Ezra as Nathaniel Wilson
  • Aisling Loftus as Sophie Norman
  • Edward Bluemel as Marcus Whitmore
  • Louise Brealey as Gillian Chamberlain
  • Aiysha Hart as Miriam Shephard
  • Owen Teale as Peter Knox
  • Lindsay Duncan as Ysabeau de Clermont

Joining for Season 2 is a very special cast member. Steven Cree will play Gallowglass De Clermont, and we get a peek of him in the trailer for the season.

Tom Hughes is also joining the cast as Kit Marlowe, an English playwright in the Elizabethan period. Yes, some of the characters have gone to the past.

Michael Jibson will play Emperor Rudolf II in the second season. The character is in one episode and based on a real-life character. It’s another connection to Outlander. Author of the All Souls Trilogy, Deborah Harkness, has done her research.

Most importantly for the series overall, James Purefoy is playing Philippe De Clermont. He’s Ysabeau’s husband and Matthew’s stepfather.

A Discovery of Witches Season 2 trailer

There is a trailer out for the season. It gives us a look at some of the individual storylines, although does mostly focus on Diana and Matthew in the past. The two will want to be careful. After all, they’re entering a time when witchcraft was dangerous (although not as dangerous as a few decades later!).

Take a look at the trailer:

A Discovery of Witches Season 2 synopsis

The second season is based on the second book, Shadow of Night. We left Diana and Matthew attempted to literally step into the past with magic. Would it work? Of course it would! There isn’t a second story if it didn’t work!

We pick up in Elizabethan London, where Diana needs to finds someone to teach her how to use her magic. At the same time, the couple needs to find the Book of Life if they want to prevent the death of all magical creatures in the future.

In the present day, we follow Gerbert, Knox, and others as they learn the truth about Diana and Matthew’s actions. Oh, they are not happy about that, and they will go after those close to the couple. Sarah and Em turn to Ysabeau de Clermont, Matthew’s mother who happens to be a witch hunter—and Sarah and Em are witches.

Sophie needs protection as she’s pregnant with a witch. Marcus and Miriam will do whatever it takes to look out for her.
