Outlander Book 3, Chapter 10 why Jamie tries to escape from Ardsmuir Prison

During Outlander Book 3, Chapter 9, we learned Jamie had tried to escape prison. While he hates prison, it did feel out of character. It meant he felt something to pull him from the walls.

Voyager Chapter 10 goes into the reasons why Jamie chose to break free. Lord John Grey is understandably certain that Jamie went in search for the gold. He’s even sure that Jamie has hidden the gold somewhere. However, he needs to find a way to get the information.

It’s another chapter where we see Lord John Grey in a less than flattering light. We see his selfishness, although I can’t blame him for being selfish considering his current situation.

This chapter also allows Jamie and John’s relationship to grow. It’s not an instant attraction for John as it seemed in the TV series.

Speaking of the series, some of this chapter was used. The storyline was switched around a little, making it easier to show how Jamie had managed to escape from Ardsmuir Prison. For a TV show’s sake, I have no problem with the way the storyline was adapted to make things work.

It is a longer chapter than the previous ones. On Audible, this chapter is about an hour long. It doesn’t feel it when reading it though!

Let’s get into the Voyager Chapter 10 breakdown.
