We continue our time at Ardsmuir Prison in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 9

We learn more about Lord John Grey in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 9. This is also the chapter that gives Jamie a little bit of hope.

The chapter is fully told from John’s POV. This does limit a few things when it comes to Jamie. We have no idea what he’s learned or why he has suddenly decided to escape. The TV show adapted this a little more, giving us Jamie’s viewpoint as well as Lord John Grey’s at the same time.

It’s been some time since I’ve read the whole of Voyager. I’m sure this comes up again with Jamie telling the story of what he did, but I just can’t remember off the top of my head. Maybe it’s the next chapter, which I haven’t got to at the time of writing this.

However, the focus is on John’s viewpoint. We learn more about him and his feelings toward Jamie.

It’s a short chapter compared to other Voyager chapters, coming in at around 20 minutes. However, it’s an important chapter. Without it, Jamie wouldn’t have escaped—and not just because of the irons around his wrists. So, it was no wonder it was used for the series.

Let’s get into our breakdown of Voyager Chapter 9 to finish off this week.
