5 best Jamie moments from Outlander Season 1, Episode 6
Standout Jamie moments from Outlander Season 1, Episode 6
There’s no doubt that Outlander Season 1, Episode 6 was a Claire-centric episode. That doesn’t mean there weren’t some good Jamie moments during it.
Most of the moments are from one scene. I’ve broken that scene down, because there are individual moments that stand out for Jamie, focusing on his character and the hope of a good relationship in the future.
Here are my favorite Jamie moments from “The Garrison Commander.”
Remaining emotionless on the scaffold
We got flashes of Jamie being whipped by Black Jack Randall. This offered us a chance to hear the story from Black Jack’s eyes, hearing more about his thoughts during the time. However, it also gave us a chance to see Jamie’s character. With it being from Randall’s eyes, we can assume that Jamie’s lack of emotion to show strength was true.
Jamie refuses to let Black Jack Randall see he’s scared. He refuses to use emotion to elicit some sort of reaction from those watching. Instead, he remains calm and collected, which would have been next to impossible to do.
Checking up on Claire
At the end of the episode, Claire has to accept she needs to marry. The man she will marry is Jamie. While she reads over the marriage contract, Jamie comes to check up on her. He wants to make sure that she’s okay with this.
Would Jamie have found another way out if she said she wanted it? She couldn’t have known she could trust him at this point, but it’s an interesting thought.

Accepting he’s not a good marriage prospect
Claire is sure that she’s not the woman Jamie wants to marry. Little does she know but he’s already in love with her. He won’t tell her that on Outlander Season 1, Episode 6, though. Instead, he focuses on how he’s not a good marriage prospect.
That’s something Jamie has come to accept. It’s almost like he thought he would never marry.
Admitting he’s a virgin
Jamie also uses this time to admit another secret. He is still a virgin. This wouldn’t have been common for a man in his 20s even in the 18th century, but it gives us a look at Jamie’s virtue. We also know he took some lessons from his father about being ready to be a father.
The line “one of us should know what they’re doing” is a great deflect, but it also tells us more about Jamie. He wants to learn from Claire.
Giving Claire time
He walks away, leaving Claire with the marriage contract. He knows that she needs some time to process all of this. Jamie is a gentleman.
We know the sort of man he will become in the future. He knows when Claire needs time to process alone, and he’s willing to give her that. This is the start of a great relationship.
