Claire visits Alexander Randall and shares her prognosis in Outlander Book 2, Chapter 39

Claire pays a visit to Alexander Randall during Outlander Book 2, Chapter 39. It’s a chance to see how bad his illness has become, offering him as much help as she can.

It’s not all about the Randall brothers. Claire does head back to Jamie, where she needs to share the information she has pretending that the information is rumors she’s hearing. She can’t tell Jamie that she’s getting the information off Black Jack Randall.

This chapter is used a little in the show. However, it’s not quite in the same way. Like the previous chapter, it’s not Black Jack Randall who wants Claire to help his brother. Of course, the basis of the chapter needed to be included as it has a big plot point for Frank’s storyline in the future.

And there is some foreshadowing in this chapter. It’s easy to overlook it, and I think during the first readthrough of this chapter a few years ago, I did miss it. After all, Claire doesn’t think too much on the subject for it to be such a big plot point. I’ll get into more details about that when it comes to the foreshadowing section.

Despite the importance of the chapter, it’s a short one. It comes in at less than 15 minutes to read, but it does push the story forward, especially toward the end with the Jacobite rebellion.

It’s time to get into the breakdown of the Dragonfly in Amber chapter.
