5 best Jamie moments from Outlander Season 1, Episode 5
Jamie showed off his protective side during Outlander Season 1, Episode 5
While on the rent party, we got to see Jamie’s protective side. It’s time to break down his best moments from Outlander Season 1, Episode 5.
Jamie didn’t get too much attention throughout the episode. After all, this is Claire’s story at the moment, as she tries to find a place in 18th-century life. It’s not been easy for her, and Jamie isn’t there to immediately protect and support her up to this point. That doesn’t mean he isn’t going to be friendly!
Here are Jamie’s best moments from Outlander Season 1, Episode 5.
Offering Claire honesty
At the start of the episode, the men decided to leave Claire out by speaking in Gaelic all the time. Even Ned didn’t spend all that much time with her, leaving her feeling isolated and hated. Jamie was the one to show her a little friendship.
However, he also reminded her why everyone is distrustful of her. Jamie makes it clear that he doesn’t really want to lie to her, even if she doesn’t want to hear the truth.
Stopping Murtagh from fighting Dougal
During the first night at a tavern, Dougal ripped Jamie’s shirt and surprised all. It was also a surprise to Jamie and Murtagh, despite them understanding everything Dougal was saying.
Murtagh stood up, as if to fight Dougal. However, Jamie didn’t want that. He understood what needed to be done. So, he made it clear with just a look that Murtagh had to leave it.
Choosing to mend his own shirt
At the end of that night, Dougal threw Claire the shirt to mend. Of course, she isn’t a woman who will just submit to a man and she fought back. When she finally relented, Jamie picked the shirt up with a statement that he’d mend it himself.
We get to see this strong-willed man. He is embarrassed and he hates what Dougal did, but he refuses to let anyone see it or offer him pity.
Reminding Claire not to judge
After the incident with The Watch during Outlander Season 1, Episode 5, Claire is angry toward the men. She can’t stand to be near them for their lack of standards.
Jamie is the one to call her out on it. While things may not be done that way where she is from, he makes it clear that they are done there. This isn’t Oxfordshire (or her own time) and she needs to avoid judging something that she doesn’t know. I love that he’s not afraid to say something we were probably all thinking.
Sleeping outside Claire’s room
Despite calling her out for her judgment, he doesn’t want anything to happen to Claire. We get Jamie’s protectiveness in its full glory. He decides to sleep on the floor outside her door. I wish the show had kept the line in the book about it looking like he’s waiting his turn so nobody will disturb.
The look on his face when she suggests that he comes into the room is so sweet. He is such a man of his time in this moment, as well as a gentleman.
