Could we see Jocasta again in Outlander Season 6?

While we wait for any news about Outlander Season 6 filming, we’re turning to the books to look at potential storylines. Jocasta has come up in some discussions, especially with Maria Doyle Kennedy moving onto new roles.

With Ulysses on his way to England with Lord John Grey, it does look like the River Run storyline is coming to an end. However, the loss of one character doesn’t mean the loss of them all. Is there a chance we’ll see Jocasta again?

We can look at “A Breath of Snow and Ashes” and later books for an idea of the storyline here. It doesn’t look likely that Jocasta MacKenzie Cameron Innes will return to the series unless it’s as a goodbye.

What happens to Jocasta in the books?

As the American Revolutionary War begins, Jocasta knows the potential for damage, danger, and destruction. She lived through Culloden, and she can’t live through that again. In fact, it’s why she couldn’t be with Murtagh in the end. She told him that she couldn’t follow that sort of life anymore after everything that she lost.

Plus, the Revolutionary War did turn people against each other. As a landowner, she was at terrible risk, especially if she was viewed as being loyal to either side. Whether Loyalist or Patriot, she could end up hurt or killed, and she wouldn’t risk that. In the book, it was the anti-Loyalists that caused a danger to Jocasta and Duncan.

So, in the books, she and her husband Duncan Innes head to Nova Scotia, Canada. It’s safer up there.

Duncan also sells River Run, the livestock, and the slaves. Only a few warehouses on the river remain in the family’s possession.

Will Jocasta say goodbye?

There may be something in the scripts for a goodbye, but that might not be able to happen. It’s going to depend on Maria Doyle Kennedy’s schedule, especially now that she’s joined Amazon’s The Wheel of Time.

Outlander Season 6 doesn’t necessarily need a goodbye, although it’s usually nice for closure on the characters and to say goodbye to them, as we do become connected to them. Jamie or Brianna may get a letter that says she and Duncan are heading north and River Run has been sold.
