Young Ian’s story will be touched on more in Outlander Book 9
Outlander Book 9 will include more about Young Ian’s past
We know a little about Young Ian’s past in the Outlander books. We’ll get more of that in the ninth book, “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.”
During the first Outlander End of Summer Series event, Maril Davis took some fan questions. One of those was about Young Ian’s past.
In the series, we’ve learned a little about his time with the Mohawks (it was a different Native tribe in the books). However, there’s clearly more to this story than he’s shared so far.
The books have already gone into more. Granted the fifth season is focused mostly on the fifth book and some of the sixth book. Young Ian’s story isn’t told in more detail until the sixth book. So, we’ll probably get more of the story in Outlander Season 6.
However, there’s still a lot of information that we don’t know. There’s more to come.
Diana Gabaldon says we will learn more
During the event, Diana Gabaldon shared that we would get to know more about Young Ian’s time with the Native Americans. This isn’t all that surprising if you’ve read some of the Daily Lines. There are more chapters with Young Ian, and he does open up to Rachel.
Rachel has been an excellent character introduced to the books. If you’ve not got to her introduction yet, she’s a Quaker introduced in the seventh book. We’ve got a little time to wait in the TV show unless the show pulls this storyline forward. She’s going to be worth the wait, though.
Young Ian opens up to Rachel during the eighth book, sharing the story about his wife. He’s also had the chance to open up to Marsali and Brianna up to this point in the books. However, he’s still missed some things out. We’ve seen him become a warrior, so what was life like for Ian with the Native Americans?
I, for one, can’t wait to find out more. Young Ian quickly became one of my favorite characters in “Voyager,” and that’s continued throughout the books. I need more from him.
We also know that Young Ian won’t die in Outlander Book 9. That’s calming to know!
