5 best Claire moments from the Outlander series premiere
What were the five best Claire moments from Outlander Season 1, Episode 1?
On Aug. 9, 2014, Outlander premiered for the very first time. This is our chance to look back over the episode.
We’ve looked back over the series premiere in various ways each year. This time, we’re going to look at Claire and Jamie’s best individual moments. First up is Claire’s best moments. After all, she does start off the series.
Spending time with Frank
The first half of the episode is all about Claire and Frank. They’re on their second honeymoon in Scotland. It’s easy to think that Claire gets fed up of Frank’s history lessons, but that’s not the case when you watch Claire’s face as he speaks. She likes to spend time with him, and while she may not know all history, she’s interested in something he’s passionate about.
It’s not like Frank completely ignores everything she’s interested in, either. The two are happy together, especially after so many years apart from each other. It’s always important to remember how happy they were, giving us a chance to understand why she fights so hard to get back to Frank at first.
Watching the dancing at the stones
I just love watching Claire see the women dancing at the stones. I didn’t need the voiceover to understand how in awe she was. In fact, I could do without the voiceover, but I know I’m in the minority there.
Claire doesn’t find the dancing funny. Instead, she feels like an outsider, privileged to see a tradition that she’s not even supposed to see.
Warning of the ambush
After falling through the stones and being saved by the Highlanders from Black Jack Randall, they head on the road to Castle Leoch. On the way, they pass Cocknammon rock, which Claire knows was used for ambushes thanks to Frank’s history lessons.
She knows that it could be dangerous to tell them the truth. After all, they could think she’s a spy. However, Claire needs to make sure they’re not ambushed by the British and decides to help them anyway.
An attempt to escape
While the Highlanders fight the British soldiers, Claire decides to escape. Well, she tries to. It’s not like she knows where she’s going.
Jamie is the one who finds her again. She doesn’t want to leave with him, but what other choice does she have? She’s not stupid!
Helping Jamie with his injuries
Claire finds herself jumping straight into work when she comes across the Highlanders. Jamie needs her help.
I love seeing her inner strength and willingness to help even though she knows she should probably stay out of it. She just can’t help herself when someone needs medical attention. Yet, it’s a later moment that stands out.
After the ambush, Jamie has been shot. We see her dealing with Highlanders who don’t know the medical terms (mostly because they’ve not even been invented yet!) and don’t have any bandages for her to use. Who doesn’t love seeing her in her element like this?
