Men are ready to fight in the latest Outlander Book 9 Daily Lines

To celebrate July 4, Diana Gabaldon revealed another snippet from Outlander Book 9. People are getting ready to fight in “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.”

It’s a fitting chapter for the day. Roger is visiting a colonel, who turns out to be a Frenchman. As he witnesses the electricity between the colonel and his men, Roger realizes that they’re getting ready to fight.

At this point in the story, we’re at the start of the Revolutionary War. It’s not going to be an easy fight, but the Patriots are ready to take their country. They’re ready for taxation with representation and for their own leader. Roger knows that it’s coming and knows the outcome, but he doesn’t think too much about that in the snippet.

Why is Roger needed?

What’s not clear is why Roger is needed in this snippet. It’s clear that Lieutenant-General Colonel Francis Marion has asked for him. Will it be a matter of faith? After all, the man that took Roger to the tent continues to call him Reverend.

At this point in the books, Roger has found a place for him in the world. He goes on a spiritual journey, which gets him to this point. But that doesn’t stop him from thinking back on his history and the battles to come.

What’s interesting is that General Lincoln has given the order to shoot anyone who he hasn’t said can leave. Is this a hint that he thinks there’s a traitor in the camp? Could this be why Roger is around?

This new design (if that's what it is) is VERY annoying. But we'll do our best…#DailyLines …

One of the great things about the Daily Lines is they don’t give too much away.

One thing to note is that Gabaldon is bringing in more real people from history in her books, and Marion is one of them. There is some debate over his description, but this is the image she has from the portraits available. We definitely agree about the nose!
