2. Episode 10: Seeing an end to Bonnet’s life

While Brianna was Bonnet’s prisoner, she learned that drowning was his deepest fear. She learned this as she was getting to see his weaknesses, giving her time to feel some sympathy for him. However, this was still her torturer; her rapist.

When Jamie, Roger, and Claire saved her from being trafficked, she wanted to see Bonnet judged by a jury of his peers. She wanted to see justice dished out. What she didn’t realize was that Bonnet would be sentenced to drowning. There was no way he would get out of this, but it meant his deepest fear would come true.

Bree chose to shoot Bonnet. We, like Roger, will never get to know whether it was out of mercy or to make sure Bonnet was dead. That’s something Bree holds with her, which was the beauty of this moment. It was all about her and nobody got to judge.

1. Episode 9: Risking her life for her son

Like Roger’s number one moment, my favorite Brianna moment has to be when she risked her own life to protect Jemmy from the bison. As that bison came in, Lizzie screamed to alert the others. There are a lot of comments about Lizzie panicking, but Lizzie was actually an important part of alerting the others and protecting Jemmy.

Seeing Lizzie in between the bison and Jemmy, Bree was able to get the bison’s attention. She became a large target to hit, knowing it could kill her if the bison hit her.

I do have a few issues with Bree getting up from the hit without a limp, but that’s a small thing. It doesn’t take away from Bree’s motherly instincts in this moment. Her only concern was her son. And this came after a conversation about finding a place in the world, using her engineering skills. None of that mattered when it came to Jemmy.
