Outlander Book Club: Book 1, Chapter 27 breakdown
Connecting to the Outlander TV series
Some of this chapter was used but only briefly. We get discussions of when Jamie fell in love with Claire and we find out about Sawney.
However, as I mentioned in the introduction, a TV show doesn’t get away with too much time on the low-drama storylines. Each episode needs to have some sort of drama, and the storyline at Lallybroch couldn’t last for too long. Part of the drama is actually in a chapter coming up.
Yet, we need some of the quieter moments to get to know the characters better. We get a chance to see Claire helping Jenny out with the day-to-day tasks, fitting in with life at Lallybroch. There’s a chance to see a bond form between these two women, even though it can’t stay.
I know book readers would be happy with more of the quieter parts. I’d love to have had a little longer of Claire and Jamie being happy and content with each other. However, those who were tuning in just for the show could have tuned out without the constant drama.
I’ll be honest and say I didn’t find this part of the Outlander book entertaining the first time around. I wanted the plot and this didn’t feel like the plot. That’s the beauty of rereading Outlander. It’s possible to delve much deeper into the reading.
