The return to Scotland saw a dip in the Outlander Season 2, Episode 8 ratings

On this day in history, Outlander Season 2, Episode 8 aired for the first time. Here’s our chance to look back over the live ratings and assess the episode.

The live ratings saw a dip from the previous episode. In a way, this isn’t that surprising. Episode 7 was one of the strongest episodes of the entire season. In fact, it’s one of the strongest episodes of the entire series. Of course more people were going to tune into that one live than the episodes either side.

However, it’s also important to remember that this is the point when the STARZ App was becoming popular. More people were watching directly through the app through Amazon Channels. The live ratings have never been important to a company like STARZ.

A breakdown of the Outlander Season 2, Episode 8 ratings

According to TV Series Finale, the episode saw an 8% dip in the demo and a 3% dip in the total audience. The audience was still over the million mark. In fact, it would be the last time until the penultimate episode the live audience was more than one million viewers.

It was one of those episodes that was hit and miss at times. Claire and Jamie had escaped France but they couldn’t leave everything behind. Jamie was named as a Jacobite supporter, even though he didn’t sign anything. That meant he had to fight and they had to hope they could win at Culloden.

To do that, they needed help. It meant we’d get to meet Jamie’s grandfather, Lord Lovett, and we’d see Colum MacKenzie return. This episode also marked the return of Laoghaire, who apologized for her previous actions. It wasn’t easy for book fans to accept this change in the storyline but something had to be gone when the writers made it so Jamie knew that Laoghaire was involved in Claire’s witch trial.

Overall, it’s not one of my favorite episodes of the season. In fact, I think it’s one of my least favorites and I’m not the biggest fan of the Paris storyline. The quality of the episodes go up from this point.
