Outlander Season 2, Episode 4 saw the attack on Claire and Mary, leading to a story of revenge for Murtagh. Here’s a look back at the ratings.

On this day in history, Outlander Season 2, Episode 4 aired for the first time. Continuing our look at the ratings, we look at the small dip that came in an episode that would connect to an episode toward the end of the season.

“La Dame Blanche” saw the Frasers host a party with all the important people in France. The idea was to continue the disruption for the Jacobites. Of course, it wouldn’t go to plan. In fact, the part would end up with a fight after an attack on Mary and Claire.

According to TV Series Finale, the live ratings saw a small dip. The demo had lost the 3% it had gained during the previous episode, while the total audience lost another 3%.

I’ll be honest and say that this isn’t one of my favorite episodes. To be honest, I didn’t really like the French-set episodes. Something just didn’t work for me until the excellent performance Caitriona Balfe gave in Episode 7, and I think part of it was knowing that everything they did was doomed for failure based on the Season 2 premiere.

Mary Hawkins was raped, leading to her and her family being disgraced. She no longer needed to marry the man she was betrothed to, but she did have to write a letter to get poor Alex Randall out of jail.

However, this episode had a bigger impact on Murtagh’s storyline. He’d been knocked out at the start of the attack and blamed himself for it. This was something he carried with him to the end of the season, which certainly showed that bond he and Claire had formed in the first season. It’s no wonder the show decided to keep Murtagh in the story longer than the books did.

The episode also gave Claire the title “La Dame Blanche.” Well, she found out that was her name. “The White Lady” meant that she was a White Witch, and that was all Jamie’s doing. Claire certainly wasn’t happy about that, but it did save her from being raped.
