Outlander Season 2, Episode 3 aired for the first time on this day in history. The live ratings were mixed, but it was also a mixed episode.

As we celebrate the anniversary of Outlander Season 2, Episode 3 airing for the first time, we take a look at the live ratings. They were mixed, but if I’m honest, it is a mixed episode.

TV Series Finale gives us a chance to look back at the ratings for past episodes. Titled “Useful Occupations and Deceptions,” the episode saw Claire use her healing skills but not without disagreement with Jamie.

While the episode’s live demo was up 3% from the previous episode (that meant up a point), the live audience was down by 2%. One thing I will say is I know the STARZ App became more widely available sometime around 2016, and this could affect the live ratings.

I do know that my view of the second season is clouded by a general dislike of the first half of the season. There’s something about the Paris storyline that doesn’t pull me in—and that was the case with the novel. Maybe it’s the fact that we knew Culloden happened. There was all this time wasted on preventing Culloden from happening during the Paris episodes, but we knew it was going to be a fruitless endeavor.

However, one thing that I did enjoy about this episode was Claire finding her calling again. She didn’t know what to do with herself while in Paris and then she found the charity hospital. Of course she was going to throw herself in this, pregnant or not.

In the end, her work at the hospital turned out to be extremely useful. She had someone who could help decipher a code through music. It would also set up some heartfelt storylines in the future episodes.
